Most events are free of charge, in order to encourage a truly diverse audience.

Art Route Tour with Coffeebeans Routes

Experience Cape Town’s fine art scene with this intimate half-day art tour from Coffeebeans Routes. The tour visits the city’s best galleries including Stevenson and the Association for the Visual Arts, depending on what’s on show. Two studio visits are also included, where you’ll see artists at work on their craft. The route takes in some sensational street art along the way, so keep your eyes peeled for works from world-renowned artists Faith47, Freddy Sam and DALeast.

Rust en Vrede Art Gallery

Originally built in the 1840s as a prison, police headquarters and magistrate’s court, this gem in the Northern Suburbs, just 30 minutes from the city centre, is now a well-established art gallery. Free entrance gets you a glimpse of their monthly exhibitions that showcase mosaic pieces, artworks and clay designs. Open on a Saturday until lunchtime, we suggest you start the morning with a breakfast at Yoco Eatery before taking in the current exhibition.

Sculpture walk in Kirstenbosch Botanical Gardens

Kirstenbosch Botanical Gardens isn't just home to exhibits of nature. It also houses an exhibition of African sculpture. Visit the Sculpture Garden for a glimpse at the collection of Mambo stone pieces created in the Shona tradition of Zimbabwe. Then head to the Centre for Home Gardening where you will see animal bronzes by Cape Town's legendary sculpture artist Dylan Lewis. Don't miss the bust of Nelson Mandela at the bottom of the main lawn, or the life-like Cape clawless otter that sits in the Otter Pond.
