Constantia Food & Wine Festival


The Constantia Valley is not only the oldest wine region in the Cape, but arguably also one of the most beautiful and just 20 minutes away from the CBD it is also conveniently close. Experience the magic of the Constantia Valley at The Constantia Food and Wine Festival – a showcase of over 40 of the finest wines and delicious food from some of the award-winning restaurants located in the region. You will be treated to multi-layered culinary delights, local wines, and live entertainment to showcase Constantia as one of the world’s premier food and wine destinations. Tickets cost just R160 per person and include 10 tasting tickets to the value of R5 each that you can use at the various wine stalls. Children under the age of 18 pay just R30.

Breakfast at the Vineyard Hotel


The Vineyard Hotel & Spa located in the leafy Southern suburb of Newlands is steeped in history. The majestic hotel and contemporary spa is set in a magnificent river-side garden designed by the renowned landscape architect Ann Sutton. Opt to take their 90-minute guided tour of the gardens comprising seven acres of landscaped parkland or simply take a leisurely stroll on your own. Now that you’ve worked up an appetite, sit down for a sumptuous breakfast at The Square restaurant, which offers an extensive fresh buffet selection to please all breakfast tastes, as well as hot to-order traditional breakfast favourites with every accompaniment. If you feel like lingering for longer book a spa treatment at Angsana or visit the two hotel galleries where you can view Lady Anne Barnard’s sketches and works by famous local landscape artist, JR Pierneef.

Now here’s a truly novel way to experience the Franschhoek winelands! The Franschhoek Wine Tram will convey passengers on their journey through rolling vineyards in an open-side tram and open-air tram-bus stopping in at some of South Africa’s oldest and most distinguished wine estates. A combination of tram and tram-bus will transport you around a loop of stops allowing you to hop-off at each stop and experience the activities on offer, be it wine tasting, a cellar tour, lunch or simply a stroll through the vineyards, and when you are ready, hop-on to continue the tour. The tour takes you into the heart of the Franschhoek Valley, with a commentary guided tour and unparalleled views. The tram offers four different routes and tickets cost R200 per person.
