New Year’s Eve Party

V&A Waterfront

One of the top spots to party the last day of the year away is the V&A Waterfront. Be sure to book a table at one of the many harbour-side restaurants for dinner before joining the crowds for the final countdown. The iconic spot is transformed into a carnival-like atmosphere with vibey live music, street performers and other entertainers turning it into one of the biggest New Year’s parties in the city. What’s more this is the perfect vantage point to catch the dazzling fireworks display at the stroke of midnight.

The morning-after breakfast

Arnold’s, Kloof Street

Arnold’s on Kloof Street is an institution. This chilled restaurant is equally popular with late-night revellers who are in need of a greasy, morning after breakfast and early morning risers who’ve worked up an appetite jogging or cycling. Indulge in the ever-popular Eggs Benedict, a delicious antidote to a night out on the town, served with crispy bacon and creamy hollandaise sauce. Match it with the restaurant’s Bloody Mary cocktail (if you haven’t heard yet, this tomato juice-based drink is rumoured to be the ultimate hangover elixir), or get your caffeine fix with a steaming cup of joe.

New Year’s Eve Test

With the exception of maybe the Australians, there is no rivalry bigger in world cricket than South Africa versus England. Pack your cooler with a picnic lunch, don your sunhat and head over to the beautiful Sahara Park in Newlands for day one of the Sunfoil Test match between the Proteas and Alistair Cooke’s boys. This annual test is a traditional favourite with the Mother City locals and with the Barmy Army in town, it is bound to be bigger than ever! Book your seats or get them at the gate on the day. Tickets start from R80.

Camps Bay

The great thing about a New Year is that you can start with a clean slate. So watch the first sunset of 2016 in one of best spots to do so in the world. Situated below the towering Twelve Apostles Mountain Range, just metres away from shimmering sand and lapping waters of the Atlantic Ocean, the trendy seaside strip along Victoria Road in Camps Bay features countless well-stocked cocktail bars and lounges. Sun-kissed beach bods, party-ready revellers, tourists and locals congregate around tables that spill out onto the street under open summer skies for a relaxed end-of-day party. Perfect chilled vibes.

Cape Town CBD

So you’re looking for a night out? A couple of drinks you say? Maybe you want to cut loose on the dance floor? Cape Town is party central, 24-7, and few places are better than the CBD – the very heart of the city – to bust out a couple of moves and have a few drinks with friends. Bree Street, Loop Street and Long Street boast some of the top bars and clubs in the country and you will find more than one that will cater to your party needs. Hop from one to the other to make a night of it.

Jazz Brunch

Winchester Mansions

End the weekend off on a high note with one of the legendary Jazz brunches at Winchester Mansions. Every Sunday between 11:00 and 14:00, the sun-dappled courtyard of this iconic Sea Point hotel plays host to a delicious mix of sweet, sultry live jazz; and a bursting buffet of culinary delights accompanied by blissful bubbles. The menu and the music is equally varied with a different local jazz artist or band taking to the sun-kissed stage.
